Offices and Subunits

University of Miami Information Technology (UMIT) is made up of six offices and their respective subunits. Functional areas include:

Academic Systems, Innovation, and Experience

  • The office of Academic Systems, Innovation, and Experience is responsible for functions such as computer labs, classrooms, lecture capture, student technology support, instructional design, learning platforms, and exploring and developing technologies that enhance online and technology-enriched courses. We work closely with faculty and students on projects related to teaching and learning. 

Digital Transformation and Data Solutions

  • The office of Digital Transformation and Data Solutions supports the academic, research, and administrative functions of the University to meet their strategic goals. This unit provides the user community with a set of integrated information systems and institutional databases that support the mission of the University, and provides faculty, staff, and students with enterprise applications that assist them in day-to-day activities.

Information Security Office

  • The mission of the Information Security Office (ISO) is to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems, identity, and data assets by providing proactive security expertise, creating and maintaining a resilient and secure infrastructure, and fostering a culture of security awareness and compliance throughout the organization.

Infrastructure and Technical Operations

  • The office of Infrastructure and Technical Operations is responsible for establishing, supporting and maintaining the technical infrastructure, including shared services, virtual services, and technical operations which support the goals and mission of the University.

IT Strategy, Talent, and Change Management

  • The office of IT Strategy, Talent, and Change Management (STCM) provides vision and leadership to effectively integrate technology into the operations of the University. This unit leads efforts to develop, implement, and communicate services-based strategies that utilize technology. IT STCM works closely with University information technology leadership and the University community to shape and implement key IT investments, and to plan strategies aligned with the University's strategic plan, as well as student, employee, and faculty needs.

Technology Lifecycle Management, Finance, and Business Administration

  • The office of Technology Lifecycle Management, Finance, and Business Administration is responsible for all IT governance reviews and assessments as well as the maintenance and review of the applications inventory, the accounting and budgetary functions of the UMIT department, ensuring compliance with University financial policies and procedures, software and hardware procurement, IT specific strategic sourcing, and all business operations of the IT and Telecommunications departments.
